Power outage along Stone Drive

KINGSPORT – Residents in the Pinebrook Place neighborhood and businesses along the north side of Stone Drive experienced a power outage Thursday afternoon.

According to John Shepelwich, spokesman for AEP, the outage occurred at 12:20 p.m. after a Sullivan County truck snagged a telephone cable on a power pole located at the Sullivan County Transfer Station off Brookside Drive.

Said snagging caused the pole to break, cutting service to 683 customers, most of whom were residential ones in the Pinebrook Place area of town. About an hour later, Shepelwich said power had been restored to 545 customers.

“That was done by isolating those customers and going to an alternate source,” he said.

An additional 138 customers were brought back online shortly before 5 p.m. Crews were working Thursday afternoon and evening putting in a new pole at the transfer station and restoring the damaged wires.
